hi, this is such an informative site.. i regret not discovering this sooner!

i've been reading on similar problems like mine and its so helpful! =)

anyway my problem is.. i stopped taking bcp back in jan-04 and havent had me period since!!! i went to the doctor early april & was given some hormone pills & told to take it for 5 days and my period's supposed to come but i only had like 2 days of spotting.. frustrated, i went to another doctor late may who gave me more hormone pills which were to be taken for 2 days, and according to him, he said the pills were supposed to skyrocket my estrogen or something for 2 days and stop after that to trigger off a normal cycle the following month & i should get my period in 4 days after completing the 2-day hormone pill.. so i did and again it was only spotting for a couple of days and now its been 24 days since and i'm waiting and waiting for me actual period to come and its been frustrating! 6 months of non period.. my skin looks bad, mood swings & crankiness, weight gain.. i gained about 10 pounds.. i've been going to the gym but its not making any difference.. i'm wondering if i am ever gonna get my period? could someone help me with any advise? will i lose the weight gained when i finally get my period back? many thanks.

I can't believe it - now I don't feel like a freak anymore. I stopped mine 2 months ago and haven't seen a period since. At the same time I've wondered why my skin got so bad & I was completely unbearable to be around!! And the weight gain, i've been dieting and no matter what I do its not coming off! Thank you for sharing this - I'm happy to know I'm not alone. Although, now I realize this may be an expensive problem to fix if I end up having to take hormones like you did. Thanks again, I was beginning to go crazy!

Things may get better if you start ovulating again--that's why you're not having periods. The doctors have been giving you synthetic progesterone in order to try to mimic what happens after ovulation in a normal cycle hoping that that will jump-start everything, but it's not working. You should probably go back to one of the two doctors (if you find a third, the same thing is probably going to happen again--stick with one that you trust!) and try to push further to see if there's something that can be done that might be more effective than five days of progestin. If you aren't ovulating, there might not be much in your uterus to shed, but sometimes there's just enough estrogen to build up a decent lining and without the right hormonal shift there's not the right situation to get a period going, so you need to stay on top of this. A couple months is not a big deal, particularly after getting off the pill, but now that you're looking at six months without a period, you may not want to just wait now.

Good luck! I hope you can get things worked out!

Glad to hear I'm not the only one too! I haven't had a period since December, and after being a little bummed out that I wasn't "accidentally" pregnant, I quit taking the pill early April. Still haven't had a period, which didn't really bother me until I realized that means I'm not ovulating. I was put on Provera May 5 for 10 days and told I should have my period the following week. It's still not here. I have gained weight too, of course, I've been a glutten for ice cream lately, but I don't eat after 6pm! :) If I haven't had my period by June 7, Dr is supposed to put me on high estrogen too. I can't believe when I finally decide I'm ready for a baby (at 37 yrs old), I'm not ovulating!

If breastfeeding in public disturbs you, please feel free to put a blanket over your head or go finish your meal in the restroom.
