my period and the pill

I'm going on vacation next month, which I planned so that I wouldn't get my period. But of course, my period decided to go out of wack this month which pretty much ensures that I'll have it during the whole time I'm on vacation. Is there a way to stop my period? I know birth control pills with hormone shave the ability to do so, or so I've heard, but does this take into effect immediately? It must seem pretty stupid to a lot of you but I have never been on vacation and was REALLY looking forward to it, and now I'm all upset. Sorry to bother anyone but any info would be great. Thanks~

Well, in my experience, the pill should stop your period early or at least make the flow lighter. Though I have to tell you, getting Aunt Flo on vacation never stopped me from having fun. Thank Heaven for tampons ;)

Hi ck552, welcome!

You could ask your doctor about a regimen of progestin to force your period ahead of your vacation or to delay your period until after you return if you will be away for only a short time, 10 days or so. One such pill (in the U.S.) is Aygestin and contains 5 mg norethisterone.

Good luck
