Just started Mini-pill, need answers

Hi, I just started the mini-pill 3 days ago. I looked through postings to read about others comments on this pill, there weren't many. Is there anyone taking this pill that has comments (good or bad) about it. I had unprotected sex last night. Worried about becoming pg but the info did say to wait 48 hours. I find it hard to believe.

Also, there are 28 active pills, which makes me think I would not get my period then. But, the info on the pill packs talks about still taking your pills when you are menstruating. So, now I'm confused. Would I, or would I not be getting my period?

Any info on this pill would help.

Thanks,

Heidi

unless taken wrong(missing a pill) they're as reliable as the "regular" pills (or the FDA wouldn't allow them to be marketed as birth control pills)....I used MICRONOR for 8 months w/o any problems (getting pregnant)....I didn't like the side effects though (heavy bleeding, clotting, awful cramping)....I'm now using an IUD....good luck-I hope you have better luck than I did with the mini pill....

Hi there,

I was on the mini pill about three years ago, and had to go off it due to heavy breakthrough bleeding. I would have to say however, given that on a general birth control pill they recommend you have protected sex for at least a week after starting the pill, depending on when you start taking it, that the same would apply to the mini pill. I honestly wouldn't think that 48 hours is long enough for the mini-pill to have full effectiveness, and I would recommend calling your doctor to see what he/she says about your unprotected sex, and/or getting emergency contraception to be on the safe side.

Also, because there is no oestrogen in the tablets, you need 28 days worth. You just keep taking the tablets, with no breaks for periods. Some women will continue to get their periods, some won't, and others like me will find it has too many side effects to continue with.

Good luck

Janet
