I'm on the Ortho Evra Patch,I change it every Friday.Well last Friday I forgot to change it,and didnt put a new one until Monday.I had unprotected sex with my BF,I'm so afraid to get pregnant.Should I call my Doc for Plan B?Would I have ovulated that fast?My period is really not due until this upcoming weekend.I'm not sure,if when you remove the patch, even when you're not suppose to get your period,if you start ovulating right away....Please help?

I'm not sure that if you leave the patch on longer than you are suppose to if it will have enough hormones for you to not ovulate... POSSIBILY a day, but a few days, it is unlikely that it will continue to protect you. Whether you ovulated or not, that is something we might not be able to tell. I think it would be a good idea to contact your doctor and tell them of your situation and see if they recomment Plan B. Its sounds like a good idea. It would be better to use plan B just in case.

Goodluck!

PS You might want to set an alarm, possibly on your phone so this doesn't happen again : ) I have two watches that go off just to remind me every day!

You will PROBABLY be okay, because the patch maintains hormone levels beyond Day 7. In the prescribing information it shows that a patch left on for 10 days kept hormone levels as high as at the Day 7 level (http://www.orthomcneil.com/products/pi/pdfs/orthoevra.pdf - see Figure 4). However, the instructions do say that beyond two days past the normal change day you MAY NOT be protected. To be absolutely safe, you may want to call your doctor.

Hi elizimah, welcome!

As other posters said you should definitely talk to you doctor about your situation. You might be ok with IC if it occurred on the 7th or 8th day of your old patch since it does take some time for you to ovulate. It is probably unlikely, but another concern is that a new patch (if not applied at the correct time) takes several days to restore the hormone level in your blood and that could put you at risk from IC even with a new patch in place. Talk with your doc and let us know how you are doing, ok?

Good luck.
