i have been on bcp (yasmin) for over a year now with no problems. i am currently on placebo week. usually, i get my period on the tuesday of that week. however, this week i started getting faint spotting on monday, and on tuesday and today, have been experiencing heavy bright red bleeding. it is like a period in heaviness, but bleeding is bright red and not darker-brownish (sorry if tmi!) like usual. is this normal? bf and i had sex on monday (we usually don't have sex so close to the beginning of my period) - could this affect my period?

tia for any help!!

So your period started a little later and "faster" than what you're used to? Sometimes that happens, I know in the seven and almost a half years I've been on birth control that my periods aren't always the same from one month to the next. Sometimes sex can change bleeding patterns slightly, it seems from the activity and any muscular contractions that occur that there can be more or less bleeding at a particular time.

If it were me, I wouldn't worry about it. Maybe I've been using bc too long, but there are a number of things that can slightly change how the hormones are metabolized from one day to the next (not a big deal most of the time), and maybe that's what's going on. I tend to not get worked up about bc stuff. ;)

Good luck!

Hi Judie, Thanks for your insight! I really appreciate it! It makes sense that sometimes our bodies metabolize things a little differently. I was a little freaked out by the bright red color. But I'm sure there's not a thing to worry about ... just too much free time on my hands :) Thanks again!
