Does anyone know which is more effective, an IUD or Depo?

I just started Depo, but do not have any statistics on it (concerning pregnancy). I have also heard good and bad about an IUD.

Wondering which one is more effective. Anyone know??

Thanks,

Aprile

more effective? Can't answer that....never used DEPO so I don't have an opinion on that, but I have had an IUD for about 9 months now and I absolutely LOVE IT!!!! I had a few side effects which are somewhat common-I had 2 periods each month that lasted 10 days or more....but they went back to normal after 3 months. My periods are now basicly spotting a few days each month.I went from using "overnight" pads to a few pantiliners each month.

Hi aprilej,

This is what Planned Parenthood http://www.plannedparenthood.org/bc/cchoices.html has to say about the IUD and Depo:

IUD: 92-99.9% effective

Depo Provera: 97—99.7% effective

Both IUDs and Depo have their advantages and disadvantages. Read what PP has to say about them. I hope Depo is right for you. Let us know how you’re doing, ok?

Good luck!
