I had my IUD put in a month ago, everything went fine. The chances are very small that anything bad will happen, and the risks are lower if your doctor is experienced and done many of these.
That said, never do anything you aren't comfortable with. Talk to your doctor about your concerns, s/he can reassure you based on experience. Every type of BC has risks, even the mini-pills, you need to decide if you are willing to take those risks.
I was nervous when I had mine put in, but I knew that my doctor had done alot of these and she explained the whole procedure to me. Take some time to think it through and decide what is best for you, remembering the risk is very small
According to the prescribing information for the Paragard (copper) IUD, uterine perforation occurs in approximately 0.07% of women using this IUD (1 in 1,360). The information for the Mirena IUD does not give a number, but I would expect it to be similar. This is a very low risk. I hope this helps, but if you are still not comfortable with it, you need to do what feels right to you. I had a copper IUD and loved it. Good luck with your decision.
