I am 33 and am going to be starting bc pill (yasmin)...I am only about 10 days into my cycle...why do I have to wait until AF starts to start this?

Thanks,

Michelle

it's easier on your body to start during your period because you have a lower hormone load at that time. it's okay to start when you're not on your period, assuming that there is absolutely no chance you could be pregnant (as you say), it might just make your symptoms the first month a little worse than if you'd started during your period. also, if you start on the first day of your period you know you haven't ovulated and theoretically you're protected from day 1. any other start time and you have to wait at least 7 days before you're protected.
