I started Yasmin about 2 weeks ago. My gyno told me that it would mess with my period schedule but does anybody know what to expect? I am on week 2 of the pack so I have one more active week and then the inactive week. Does this mean I'll get my period at the normal time and then again when I hit the green pills?

One of the really good things about being on birth control pills is after a while your periods come about the same time every month. I've been able to pinpoint the hour that I will start my period every month. So how the birth control pills work is there are usually 3 weeks of active hormone pills and one week of inactive placebo pills. During the 3 active weeks, your body gets hormones that more or less "trick" your body into thinking its pregnant, therefore, not releasing an egg. Without an egg to fertilze, you can't get pregnant. During the inactive week of pills, there are no hormones present. These pills are there basically just so you don't go a week without taking the pills at the same time everyday, therefore, not missing a pill once you start the active ones again. So since there are no hormones present in this last week of pills, your body is then switched back to believing it is not pregnant, and then your period starts. Usually your period will start on the 2nd or 3rd inactive pill and will last until you start the new pack. So, now that you are on birth control pills, it does not matter when you started your period originally. Now it will be regulated according to the inactive week of your pills.

Good Luck!

You should get your period when you are into the reminder or sugar pills. As a new pill user please be aware that sometimes women get breakthrough bleeding which is bleeding while you are on the active pills along with one during the sugar or green pills. Also, some women do not get a period while on the sugar pills so if you don't, don't panic as it is a side effect of the pill when first starting it. As long as you have been taking it every day without fail and at or around the same time, you should be fine. Other side effects include nausea, acne, mood swings, etc. but they should go away within three cycles of pills. Good luck to you.
