Could I be?

Hi everyone,

I have just come out of a not so good relationship...it ended around 3 months ago. The last time we had sex was probably almost a month before that. I was on the pill the entire time that we had been together, and had never missed a tablet.

I have had my period twice since breaking up with him, and am now overdue by a fortnight. I havent been on the pill since we broke up, so i dont know if 3 months would be enough to give my cycle a bump or not. I only realised today that i was so overdue for them. Is it possible to be pregnant after having your period after you have had sex?? I would go down to the chemist and grab a test now if i could, but its after hours, and im in a small town so the shops dont open up till monday! (its Sat night here) What do you think??

Thanks

If you were on the pill at the time of sex, never missed a pill, and had two periods since, there is very little chance that you are pregnant. The most likely explanation is that you did not ovulate this month, whether it is from your body adjusting to being off the pill or due to other factors such as stress (due to breakup?). When a woman does not ovulate, she may go a long time without getting a period.

Thanks! That makes me feel better! The only other thing that i forgot to mention, is that the last 2/3 days ive been having really strong cramps. I hadnt had any while i was on the pill, but you wouldnt cramp if you were pregnant would you?

Thanks again

Your body will tend to be as crampy as it was before without the pill, which for most women is crampier than with the pill. I would not think cramps would be indicative of pregnancy. Certainly, if you are worried about it, take a pregnancy test when you can get one. It should put your mind at ease. If your cramps get REALLY severe to a point that is not normal for your body, you may want to call your doctor. Most likely you are fine, but better safe than sorry. Take a couple ibuprofen if you are uncomfortable. It works wonders for my cramps. Good luck!

It is unlikely that you are pregnant as you have had two periods since you and your boyfriend broke up. Sometimes periods are late due to stress or excessive exercise and not necessarily an indication that you could be pregnant. If you haven't been on the pill since you broke up, another reason you may not have gotten your period this month is because your system is not back to normal yet due to the loss of hormones in your system from the pill. Getting on and getting off the pill usually messes up your menstrual cycle. Good luck.

When I was preg with my first, I had pretty bad cramps, and what I thought was a period for 2 months, then poof nothing. My dr said that the cramping was implantation, and so were the "periods".

After that last post, i jumped in the car, and drove an hour to a chemist that was open!! I have done the test, and it was negative....just hope that these "99% accuracy" home tests are really that accurate!

Thanks for the input everyone!

I had cramps in early pregnancy, but they felt a bit different from normal menstral cramps. I believe they were the uterus stretching.

I went off Ortho-tri cyclen before Christmas and haven't had regular periods since. It is normal to be irregular for a while after going off the pill. My doctor told me that I should be back to normal after about 4 months but it's been six and I'm still not getting a regular period. She told me to see her again for some testing to check my hormone levels.

I feel like I should be buying EPT in bulk! :) I just took a test Friday after being three weeks late. Negative again!
