I have been taking Ortho Tri. for over a year. Well I switched to Trilevlen this month because it was cheaper. I always use condoms and take the pill. However the other night the condom broke. I was on the 16th pill in that pack. I haven't missed any pills and I've taken these pills just as I did the Ortho ones. I"m just really scared because I've never had semen inside me. What is the chance of me being pregnant? I should start on this Sunday but i can't sleep for thinking about it!

The pill is 99% effective when it's taken properly --without-- any additional form of contraception. Many many women (myself included) use only the pill (or in my case Nuvaring) as our birth control, that's what it's for! I use condoms as backup in case I have to take antibiotics or for missed pills when I was on the pill, but otherwise not at all.

So long as you've been taking your pills on time, haven't missed any, haven't had diarrhea or vomiting 2 hours after taking any pills, and aren't taking any prescription or herbal medications that might interfere with the absorption or metabolism of the hormones, everything should be fine. Well, everything so long as your partner is free of STD's--that's one reason to keep using condoms. If you aren't sure, you might get tested for STD's at your next pap if it's within six months or so or earlier if it's farther away.

I hope that helps!
