I heard from a friend that about two weeks before you are due for your next shot, that Depo is no longer as effective. Is that true?

No, that is not true. If depo became less effective two weeks before the shot was due, they would give it to you sooner.

I started Depo about 3 1/2 to 4 years ago. At the time, I didn't think too much about weight gain b/c I started it at 16 years old b/c of excessive bleeding for a month a 1/2 straight. I had lost so much blood that I needed a blood transfusion, and as soon as I left the hospital, my OBGYN put me on Depo to control my periods. Well last week a friend of mine told me she was thinking about going on Depo too. I told her it was so great, and I loved the fact I only had a period once every couple/few months. She called me today and said she had just left her doctor's appointment and was told not to go on Depo b/c it causes weight gain and hair loss. Has anyone had this problem?, if so how do you handle it? When I was put on Depo I didn't gain weight right away, but between the ages 16 and 18 I gained 15 pounds, but I always thought that was just weight I was going to gain b/c of age. As far as the hair loss, my hair has always been very fine, so I never thought shedding or breaking was caused by the Depo. Is it?
