Is it possible after only two days on BC

I started Loestrin 1/20 on Sunday...the day after my period started (Saturday). I was on it for two days...decided NOT to take it for various reasons...last pill was taken on Monday...ever since then, I have been clotting...bleeding (still today and it's Friday). Not a lot, but enough to make me wonder why I still have my period (usually lasts around 4 or 5 days and are heavy for the first two). Also, I have had a weird numbness in my left arm...and feeling a little light-headed, although I think that might have to do with bleeding more than I normally do.

Is this normal after only being on the pill for TWO DAYS? Any help would be appreciated before I call my doc this morning.

Thanks for replies in advance.

Hi radiogal830,

Irregular bleeding is normal after stopping OCs, even after only 2 pills, and the amount and duration will depend on the individual woman. The numbness in your arm and dizziness would worry me though. If I were you I'd talk to my doc. as soon as possible. Let us know how you're doing, ok?

Good luck

I had dizziness and horrible headaches while on loestrin. I stopped after only two days also. I didnt have the heavy bleeding. And when I stopped taking it, the headaches and dizziness were gone. I agree to check with you dr. Let us know what they say.

Hi...I just wanted to thank you both for posting...I do appreciate it. I actually did not call my doctor, but as the morning wore on, I had no numbness and the bleeding stopped also. So, maybe my body was expelling the hormone and all is well now. What a weird lesson to learn...my instinct kept telling me to not go back on the pill after being off of it for a few years, but I thought I was being paranoid. Now I don't think I was being paranoid...the pill is just not for everyone and while it offers many benefits, in reality it messes with your natural body makeup. That is bound to cause problems...eventually...maybe not short term, but eventually. And after reading some of these posts about blood clots, etc. I am almost certain it happens more than we hear about...just a little scary to me, even though I know the pill would help with my monthly cycles, I am not willing to put myself in the state of risk that hormones puts your body in...

have a good evening and thanks again for caring enough to respond to my concern.

Best wishes!

Hey radiogal

If I were you I'd still talk to my doctor about it, because it could be something you should get looked at if it's not the BCP causing those things. As well, you could always try a different brand of pills. I was on tri-cyclen for a few months and had horrible side effects, didn't think I would ever want to be on the pill again, but when I changed to Loestrin and eventually to Min-ovral I love them both and haven't had any major side effects. But if you are certain you don't want to use birth control pills anymore there are many other options, I'm sure some of the ladies on here can help you out with that info better than I can:)

I have tried several different pills, but not Loestrin. They all gave me various side effects, but one of the strangest and most troubling was numbness/tingling in my left arm, which happened only with Ortho Tri-Cyclen. It happened to me when I started OTC in my late teens and only lasted a couple days, after which I remained on this pill for several months. Other than the numbness, I tolerated OTC very well. Well, several years later when I tried going back on it after I had my daughter, the numbness happened again. Also, this time I did not tolerate OTC very well (headaches, night sweats, insomnia). I saw a nurse or doctor each time the numbness occurred and they seemed to brush it off with an "I don't know". Fortunately, it went away each time. I also had some numbness in my left hand late in my pregnancy. I think each time (pill or pregnant), the numbness was probably due to fluid retention caused by estrogen. The swollen tissues may have pressed on a nerve in my arm.
