Mirena vs BCP

I am thinking about using Mirena instead of my birth control pills. I don't have any problems with using the pill, but I would like to decrease the amount of medication I am taking. I have a 3 year old, and we are not planning on having another child for at least a year. I am hoping there are members that have good and bad stories to share about side effects. Also, is it worth it to keep it in only a year or two?

I'd only suggest using the mirena for that short length of time if you were having major problems.I don't know about your insurance situation, but I had to pay for the mirena out of my own pocket and wait to be paid back by my insurance company. It cost over $400....It's good for 5 years,so I guess it's really up to you...as far as how it works compared to bc pills--I love it.I've had mine about 10 months and have gone from using a double pack of kotex overnights pads to using a few pantiliners each month-I basicly spot for a few days each month and it's over. The first few months after it was put in my periods were heavier and came every 2 weeks and sometimes lasted 2 weeks...but after 3 months things settled down to once a month-it was still heavier than I liked but it got lighter each month after.I'm very happy with it.
