how to change period on Nuvaring??

Hi all! I need a little advice. I am currently using Nuvaring, and right now I have my period. Tomorrow evening I am supposed to put in a new ring. However I just realized that on my current schedule, my period is going to come right in the middle of my vacation. I want to change it, but I don't really know how with the nuvaring. I'd like to make it the week after vacation. So somehow I need to keep my period away for an extra week. Anyone know how to do this on nuvaring? I thought about maybe just waiting a week and not putting my new ring in until next sunday. I realize that would compromise my protection but as far as pushing off my period it might work. Or, maybe I could put my ring in tomorrow and leave it in for an extra week? (Can the ring effectively stay in for 4 weeks?) Do you think that would work? Of course if I do that and my period breaks through in the fourth week I'm screwed anyway. Please help!!! I REALLY REALLY don't want my period to ruin my romantic vacation!!!

It depends on how much time you have and how certain you want to be that AF won’t arrive during your vacation. You can safely leave NuvaRing inserted for four weeks. However, some women find that they begin to spot during the fourth week. Another way is to remove the old ring after three weeks and immediately insert a new one. Some women may begin to spot while wearing the second ring. Or, as you suggested you could leave the ring out for another week. That should definitely move your period but it would mean using back-up for at least two weeks, the second week you are without your ring and the first seven days after you insert the new one, and you might experience some side effects as you body adjusts to the hormones again. If you have the time ahead of your vacation you might just want to see if leaving the ring in for four weeks will work for you. Even if you spot during the fourth week you will have moved your period. Let us know what you decide and how it works for you, ok
Good luck
