I am on microgynon 30 and I usually take it between 6 and 9pm at night.

I had sex at around 3pm but forgot to take the pill that night. I only remembered at noon the next day. I have taken the pill that I have forgotten, but I am worried about getting pregnant, is there a chance I could since I had sex then forgot to take the pill or am l ok as long as I take my next one on time?

Hi Ukcuddlebug, welcome!

There is no 100% effective contraceptive, except abstinence. Taking your pill 12 hours late will reduce the effectiveness of your pills by some unknown amount, but I think you are probably ok. For years pill manufacturers said that no back-up was required when only one pill was missed. In the U.S. the FDA is now recommending that back-up be used even after only one missed pill (taking your pill 12+ hours late constitutes a miss) so if I were you I’d use condoms as back-up for at least 7 days of correct pill usage. You will probably be fine, but better safe than sorry, right? Thanks for coming all the way across the pond to see us. Let us know how you’re doing, ok?

Good luck

Don't forget, your pill wasn't late yet when you had sex! Your body didn't know you were going to forget a pill in several hours, so I really think you're fine. Sperm only live for several days in the presence of fertile cervical fluid, which you should not have (on the pill), so by the time you might ovulate (could take days, if you do at all after being several hours late with only one pill) the spermies would be long dead anyway.
