hi everyone,

i posted a message previously that stated that i had lost my pill for the beginning of the 3rd week on ovcon 35. i followed your advice and took mondays pill to replace sunday, and started my period on saturday. i had a full period lasting all 7 days, and then to avoid having to use backup, i started my new pack on saturday so i wouldnt have gone 7 24 hour days without an active pill. my obgyn switched me to tri-sprintec because i had a lot of complaints about ovcon, and ive taken them perfectly (im on my 3rd day.) however, i was flipping through a magazine that had an article about the pill.. it said if you lose a pill to use backup until your next pack. i tried to calm myself down by reminding myself that it wasnt an in-depth article and that it was written for a confused teenage audience. im in a sticky situation now i guess, considering i had intercourse the 2nd to last day of my inactives. was i protected or do i need to worry? i started my pill pack on time, and didnt go more than 7 24 hour days..please help!

Hi sweetlilmegxo, welcome back!

You didn't mess up, you did exactly what you should. You should be fine. By moving your start day you retained your protection so there was no need to use back-up because you missed a pill. Some women use back-up when switching pills but that is more for individual peace of mind. The patient information leaflet that came with your pack of Tri-Sprintec will tell you what the manufacturer recommends when switching pills but I think you will be ok. I hope you like Tri-Sprintec. Let us know how you’re doing, ok?

Good luck
