I normally take Ortho tricyclen lo. I had a delay in getting my new prescription so I am not on it this monthy. A week ago yesterday I had unprotected sex -- I was about 12 days into my normal cycle (it is always 28 days because I am normally on the pill). I called my doctor the next day to get the morning after pill. There was some confusion at the pharmacy and I was unable to get the prescription filled until the next day. I was prescribed lo-ovra. I took 2 pills approximately 48 hours after intercourse and then 2 pills about 12 hours later. Thought everything was okay until today when I have had spotting. I know one can have implantation spotting about 7-10 days after intercourse. What are the chances this is what is going on and I am prego? Do I have to wait another week before I will be able to take a test? HELP!!!!!!!

Wow, sweety did they not tell you how the Morning After Pill works? Check out these sites so you can learn more about what you just put into your body:

There are a lot more links like these which will offer you a lot of great information, but I'm running out of time here... I just wanted to mension that I have taken the MAP a few times and I know that spotting is one of it's side effects because, depending on where you are in your cycle it can cause you to spontaneously menstruate. Do a search on it and see what you come up with.

Good luck!

Hi lawdog1976, welcome!

A very good site for information about EC is http://ec.princeton.edu/ Spotting is a common side effect of EC. Read the FAQs on the link above, there is a great deal of information in them. You are probably ok but it's a bit early to test as tests aren't accurate until at least 10 days after the event and preferably after your period is late. Let us know how you're doing, ok?

Good luck and hugs!

Did you get LoOvral instead of one of the regular emergency contraceptive pills? The dose of LoOvral that is required for emergency contraception is four pills plus another four 12 hours later. The only pills that you can just take two of are Plan B or Preven (also Ogestral and Ovral, but those are rarely prescribed because of a high estrogen content). It's very important, if this happens to you again sometime down the road, to make sure you understand exactly what you need to do, particularly if the prescription gets screwed up. http://ec.princeton.edu/questions/dose.html will tell you what dose is needed for each oral contraceptive if you can't get regular EC.

Remember though, before you start freaking out, that some women don't ovulate in their first cycle off of hormonal contraceptives, some women take a couple of months. Spotting is VERY normal and should be expected if you give your body a surge of hormones and then take it away--implantation spotting is much much less common than spotting due to hormonal changes. Everything might be just fine, so try not to worry, okay? There isn't anything you can do right now but wait, I know it's hard, but hang in there--it can't go on forever!

Best of luck....
