Please help. . .I gave birth to my beautiful baby boy 7 1/2 weeks ago. Two weeks after giving birth, my doctor put me on Seasonale. I bled for 5 weeks straight, when I went in last week for my 6 week check-up, she said that bleeding that long was not good so she put me on Ovcon 35. I have been taking it for a week now, and the bleeding is even heavier. I called her today and she says that I just have to deal with the bleeding because of all my hormones. Does anyone have any advice? I am really getting tired of all this bleeding, it is making me very upset and I feel like I'm going crazy. Thanks!

well, do you need to be on hormonal contraception right now? your post partum hormones are probably crazy enough that adding BCP on top of them is just driving your body completely nuts. Would it be possible to use a non-hormonal contraceptive for the next few months until your natural cycles stabilize, then try BCP again? women can bleed for weeks after delivering a baby anyway, it doesn't surprise me that BCP made it even worse for you.

My doctor suggested that I should be on BCP immediately following the birth of my son. So I listened to her. My post-partum bleeding stopped two weeks after having my son. I had to have a c-section and she told me that I cannot get pregnant for another 6 months. Anyway, I can't use anything with spermicide in it and I have a latex allergy. So I guess that is why she suggested BCP. I don't want to go back on Depo Provera because of all the weight gain that I had before; and my doctor is against the IUD, considering the fact that my husband and I would like to try to have another baby within the next 9 to 12 months. Thanks for listening!

Hi aurabee24, welcome!

You might want to consider polyurethane condoms such as Trojan Supra or Avanti. They are about as effective as latex condoms and you would avoid the latex allergy problem. I hope you find an effective method of contraception that works well for you.

Good luck,

Thanks, Jill. I guess I'll just have to go off bcp's for a while. Don't really want to, but with all this btb, I guess it is the best thing to do for now. Thanks again.

Sincerely,

Laura
