Hi everyone :)
Just a quick question really.... I want to start some kind of birth control, apart from condoms as they can really aher kill the moment sometimes! Basically My mum has had a stroke in the past and because of this some doctors are ok about prescibing me birth control but some wont let me touch it under and circumstances.
I have taken alot of blood test / urine tests and they have all come out border line for everything. My question is, is there effective birth control out there thats not the coil, condom or pill?
Thanks in advance to all replies and have a good day :)

You might want to consider a diaphragm or cervical cap. A diaphragm or cervical cap does require being fitted by a medical practitioner and they take discipline to use correctly but no more than using condoms and, I think, much less trouble. If you have a good fit and use your diaphragm or cap correctly and consistently it can be as effective as condoms and you don’t loose the spontaneity as you do with condoms. I wear a cervical cap as my primary method of contraception and a diaphragm for flow control and contraception during menses and love how well they work for me.
If you would like to know more about diaphragms or cervical caps take a look at the information on them in the FAQs on the Board’s webpage at: http://pages.ivillage.com/cl-judie_rae/id1.html And if you have more questions, please ask. I hope you find an effective method that works well for you.
Good luck,
Jill
After reading your post and with a little bit of research i am going to see my doctor about getting a diaphragms or cervical cap fitted.
Just one or two questions really! How come you wear two different forms of contraception (albeit at different times!) and what do you mean by menses (sorry i'm a uk ivillager!)
Kind regards
Chantelle
Menses is my period. I use a diaphragm during my period for contraception and flow control, catching the flow in the dome. On my heavy days I can go about 4 1/2 hours between emptyings. I wear a Milex diaphragm made of silicone rubber that (unlike latex barriers) is impervious to petroleum based medicines and lubes. I love my Oves cap but a cap can't be worn effectively during ones period as the tiny dome will fill with flow and the cap will dislodge from the cervix. I hope you have a supportive doctor. Many medical practitioners these days think diaphragms and caps require too much discipline for women to use them correctly and consistently. You'll let us know what your doctor says, right?
Good luck,
Jill
