Weight loss and spotting?

I've been on Cyclessa for a year now, and I haven't had any spotting or breakthrough bleeding -- until now. I am on my second week of pills, and the spotting is actually heavy enough at times that I need to use a light tampon. I was so embarrassed the other day because I was wearing pink capris pants (very light color, of course!) and was caught totally off guard by the spotting. It's very nerve wracking to think that any time, any place I might have to deal with an accident like that. This has been going on for a few days, and it doesn't seem to be lightening up -- nor is it getting worse, just holding steady.

I've recently lost 10 lbs, and I'm curious if that may have upset my body chemistry. Our bodies are so finicky. I'm also experiencing PMS-like symptoms (and I'm normally someone who doesn't suffer from that.) I've been feeling emotionally unstable -- crying easily, etc. My bf probably thinks I'm insane!

Do you think the weight loss and spotting could be related?

Hi xavery, Welcome!

I think your weight loss and the spotting might be related. Burning fat releases estrogen which, in some women, is enough to throw your hormone level off and cause some spotting. If that's what's happening then when your weight stabilizes the spotting should stop. The additional estrogen could also be causing the other symptoms you are experiencing.

Good luck,

Thank you so much for the great response! It's really the only thing that could

have triggered it -- the only true lifestyle change.

Thanks a bunch, and man, I can't wait for this to correct itself! What an annoyance...

In my next life, I'm going to be a man!!

Another thing to look into is whether or not you've changed your vitamin C intake. Vitamin C can affect how quickly estrogen is metabolized (it's not a bad thing and doesn't affect your protection at all) and that can also alter things enough to cause spotting, but I can't remember if it's a sudden decrease or increase....

Good luck, I hope it stops too!
