To whom it may concern,
We just only had sex one day after my period. After that one time of sex after my period, we felted deeply that it is not right for us to get pregnant now. We talked it over between us, ans said no more sex until wer are married. But, after that one time of sex of the day after my period, what are the chances of my getting pregnant. Can you help me, I'm confused.

No one can say exactly what your chances are. However, if your periods are regular and of average (28 days) length then you are probably ok. If you aren’t fertile sperm can only survive for a few hours in your vagina. Most pregnancies that occur during or very shortly after the woman’s period are because of a short menstrual cycle which causes her to become fertile just a few days into her cycle. Good for you, wanting to wait until you are married, but if you change your mind then please use an effective method of contraception. You can talk with your doctor or your local Planned Parenthood clinic to discuss your options and we might be able to help as well. Thanks for stopping by. Come back and see us if you have further questions.
Good luck,
Jill

No one can really say what your chances are because when cycling naturally ovulation can vary from cycle to cycle. What is the average length of your cycle? Is it 28 days, or more, or less? If your cycle is about average (28 days) and your period was 6-7 days then you may have been ok. However, you say you had a 9 day period (4th-13th) and sex the day afterward so that is Cycle Day 10. If you usually have a 28 day cycle you are coming close to mid cycle, and women can be fertile several days before ovulation. If your cycles are normally shorter than 28 days you are at even greater risk. If you had sex on the 14th you are still within the 72 hour window to take Emergency Contraception. Given that you had unprotected sex on CD 10 if I were you I would call your doctor and tell him or her what you told us and be guided by his/her advice. Since the effectiveness of EC decreases the longer you wait please talk to your doc. or Planned Parenthood as soon as you can. You can find the PP clinic nearest you with their locator: http://www.plannedparenthood.org/Zip.htm There is a lot of good info. about EC on the EC site at: http://ec.princeton.edu/ Let us know how you’re doing, ok?
Hugs,
Jill
Sweetie, I have already given you the best answer you are probably going to get. That is to talk with your doctor about your situation ASAP! Ovulation charts are not very good predictors as there can be too many variables. The only way to tell when you are fertile and have ovulated is to chart your fertility signs and note the rise in you basal body temperature at ovulation. If you are interested in knowing more about your menstrual cycle a very good book on the subject is Toni Weschler's Taking Charge of Your Fertility. You can check it out from your local library. And, if I were you I'd start using an effective method of contraception, for each and every act of intercourse. Let us know what your doctor says, ok?
Good luck
Jill

The original poster is a diabetic so hormonal EC might not be a good choice. However, she could have an IUD inserted, within 7 days of the event of concern. An emergency IUD insertion as EC is extremely effective and IUDs are a contraceptive method that will work well for many diabetics. See: http://www.plannedparenthood.org/bc/cchoices3.html#EC
