Hello! I'm new to this board and just wanted to introduce myself. I'm Robyn 23 year old momma to Austin (who will be 4 on July 12th) and Dylan who was born April 22,2004!

Since I was 16 i've been on BC! I've done the pill, depo, the patch, condoms EVERYTHING. Finally now that I have a second child and my husband and I are pretty sure we're done having kids- I'm getting Mirena!

I was just wondering how wonderful it really is? I'm VERY excited about getting it! It's one less thing I'm going to have to worry about!! I'm jsut waiting for my next period to start so I can go and have it inserted.

I about fell of the exam table Monday when the doctor said that I would need to be on my period for him to put it in because your cervix is open just a tiny tiny bit! UGH! Is this as bad as I am realling thinking it's going to be? I mean- eww- ya know?

I was only hoping to chit chat with other ladies who have the Mirena and how well it's working for you!!

If you've got yahoo~ Please feel free to yahoo me! my name is Robyn922

thanks ladies and have a wonderful day!!

I guess different drs put them in differently....I've had mine for about 10 months now and had it put in on day four of my "monthly cycle" (4 days after my period ended)....She gave me a shot "down there" to kind of numb things but I still felt LOTS AND LOTS of pressure.I cramped slightly the rest of the day (ibuprofen helped some)....The first 3 months I had a period every 2 weeks that lasted 2 weeks-it was heavier than normal but after the 3 months things settled back down to just 1 period each month...Each month they got lighter and lighter. Now I basicly spot for 2-3 days.I was using a double pack of kotex overnights pads and now I just use a few pantiliners.I love it!!!! I'm so glad I got the Mirena....When it's out of date I plan on getting another one.good luck!!!!!!(Hope I didn't scare ya) :)

Welcome-

I have the paragard IUD (copper T good for 10 years) I have no children and am not sure if/when we will be ready so this seemed like a great choice.

My doctor inserted my IUD during my period as well. I wasn't given any numbing shot, but told my doctor I have a high threshold for pain. It was just bad cramping for less than 30 sec it takes to insert. I had cramps for the rest of the day, a couple of Motrin took care of it.

Other posters have said it feels a bit like a contraction (wouldn't know).

I feel that many years of effective BC is worth a few seconds of pain :)

I have light periods so it terms of mess it wasn't anything. The whole procedure took less than 10 min.

Good Luck, lets us know how it goes.

Hello,

I have a Paraguard IUD as well. The Dr. put it in while I was menstrating. Since I have one child I know what labor feels like (only 17 hours of it though). Ended up with an emergancy c-section... but that's another story. This procedure was about 1000x less painful then the labor and c-section. Since I never crammped before with my periods, I can only say that I now have cramps with my period. Of course, it's only been in for one cycle now, going back for my IUD check this week. I did bleed longer and heavier this month then ever before, but still that was nothing compared to the knowledge that I have worry free, hassle free birth control. OH and a side note, my BF loves the feel of the string on his penis during intercourse.... Wondering if anyone else has heard that before.

My BF can't feel the string during sex. I love the paragard so far. My check up with my doctor went fine and she said that my periods and cramping should get better with time and to take Motrin a day or two before my period. This would lessen the cramps and the bleeding.

I too love that I never have to think about. My only concern is that I don't expell it. I was wondering how long I have to worry about that...

Until I started reading these boards, I didn't even think about expulsion. I'm still not too concerned about it. Is it a common problem? I go to the Dr. on Thursday, and I'll check with him about that. Meanwhile, I've never felt my strings either, only bf has. I can't seem to find them for some reason.
