Starting Nuvaring

I'm going to hopefully be starting Nuvaring soon, well as soon as my doctor gets it in. Only problem is that I read in the product info that it should be put in between the 1st and 5th day of your period. Is that a necessity? Would it be that big of a deal if it was put in on the 6th or 7th day? I'm on my 5th day right now and the ring should be in by tomorrow. Does anyone know or do I have to wait until next month?

I am not 100% sure on this, but I would think it would be fine to insert the Nuvaring a day or so later. But I would be safe and use a 2nd form of protection for at least the next 7 days.

I just started using Nuvaring myself almost 2 weeks ago and loving it so far.

So, hang in there and someone more knowledgeable will be along shortly!

It's not a big deal. You can insert at any time. However, the later you are in your cycle the more likely you are to experience some discomfort by adding the ring hormones to the increasing levels of your natural ones. And if you wait too long you could be so far along that you will ovulate anyway. You will need to use back-up for at least 7 days after inserting the ring. I think if you insert tomorrow, you should be fine. Let us know how you like it, ok?

Good luck

I put it in on Day 6 as I said and so far I like the ring. I don't really know its there are there aren't any bad side effects. Then again this is my first time using BC. It'll be 2 wks this Thursday. The first day was kind of weird because I had this slight pressure in my chest, but that hasn't happened since that first day. The only thing that I notice that is different now is if I stand up for a long period of time I get this strange cramping in my vagina. Its weird. But other than that and maybe a little soreness inside, no complaints yet. But those are all things I can deal with.

Now, I put the ring in on Day 6 of my period/cycle and I have a little question. Just to be reassured. On Day 9 of having the ring in my bf came inside, but I should be good for no pregnancy right? It was more than a week, so the hormones would have had enough time to build up? And the fact that I started on Day 6 should have no bearing on that?

As long as you had been using the ring for seven days, you should have been protected from pregnancy no matter when you started it. The seven days isn't to allow the hormones to "build up" in your body, rather it's to stop the ovulatory process if it's started or to allow it to finish before you expose yourself to risk, and they've (the ubiquitous "they" lol...) determined that seven days is an appropriate time frame so that ovulation can be prevented or avoided.

I hope you continue to like it!
