Does anyone know how soon a pregnancy test (over the counter) can be taken after the actual conception? Do you have to wait until your period is late?

You don't have to wait till your period is late, you can take some early tests approx 10dpo - approximataly 4 days BEFORE your period is due. But doing this can give you a false negative, because not all women have enought of hgc (I think) hormone in their blood to register a positive even if they are preg. So the best idea is to wait until the first day of your missed period, but still take an early (ie. more sensative) test, they're very effective at that point, and should give you the correct answer.

Hope you get the result you want.

Take an early test (EPT is one brand) no sooner than 10 days after suspected conception, but if it's negative you'll probably want to take a test every week or so, especially if you miss your period. A friend of mine didn't have a positive pregnancy test until 5 weeks after conception. Some people don't reach detectable levels of HCG until later on.

Oh, and to improve the chances of a correct positive result, test your first morning's urine, the HCG will be more concentrated.

It depends on the brand/type of test you get....Some you can test around 4 days before your period's actually late...depends on the brand....
