I cannot take any hormonal method of birth control due to the blood clots that developed in my lungs as a result of taking the pill. What does everyone use? What is best? What is most reliable? The options I know about are the diaphragm, IUD, condoms, cervical cap... I don't know much about any of these. I know a little, and I'm thinking an IUD might be the best option, however... I've heard a lot about perforation of the uterus, causing infertility and that's the last thing I need. The other thing is I've never had a kid which I heard makes the uterus more likely to expel the IUD. Please help me!!

Here is an article that might help you:

http://www.ivillagehealth.com/features/birthcontrolaz/pages/0,12910,436256_438023,00.html?arrivalSA=1&cobrandRef=0&arrival_freqCap=1&pba=adid=8994940

I had a copper T IUD for about 2 years. They are a very effecitve form of birth control...they rank right up there with sterilization if I am not mistaken. I have heard that some doctors will place them in women who have not had children while other doctors will not. You'd have to check with doctors in your area to find out if they will place one in you or not.

This article will give you more info on the copper IUD:

http://www.fhi.org/en/RH/Pubs/Network/v20_1/NWvol20-1CopperIUD.htm

You can also do a search for more info on your other birth control options by typing them into the "find messages about" box on the top of the board.

Good luck.

I have the copper IUD, no children. I love mine so far (I have had it for a little over a month). My doctor had no trouble with me not having children. I think you will have no problem since there is a medical reason you can't take hormones. The chances of an IUD causing infertility are rare. The chances that you expell the IUD are higher if you haven't had a child. The rate is 6% if you have children and I think less than 10% without children.

It is a great option, very low maintance. Just check to see if the string is there every month.

My period was more crampy and a little heavier this first period. My doctor said they would get better each time.

I hope you find something that works for you!
