Hi everyone!!!

Hoping you can help. As my previous post stated I've been on Microgestin (Lo-Estrin generic) for about 3 weeks now, the better part of which I've been experiencing major breakthrough bleeding and cramping. I've also experienced some rapid weight gain 7-10lbs. I was on Loestrin 1.5/30 in my 20's and never experienced any the effects I'm experiencing now in my 30's. I was wondering if anyone has had any trouble taking off the excess weight gained by the BCP. I'm hoping that increasing my exercise routine and drinking plenty of H2O will help take the weight off. If this not the case then any alternative BCP recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Hi Car,

Weight gain was my main concern when I started taking Microgestin (the generic for Loestrin 1/20). I've been on it for three months and I've lost about 3 pounds. I also have been drinking more water than usual, watching what I eat and exercising, so I attribute the weight loss to that more than to the pill, however I did notice a slight decrease in appetite, especially 2-3 hours after I take the pill. I would say that the best thing you can do is drink lots of water and exercise, it sounds like the 7 pounds is water weight. Or you can ask your doctor about Loestrin 1/20? I also had BTB in the first two months, but it looks like I'm finally getting used to it...

Hope you feel better soon!

Hi,

I took Loestrin 1/20 when I was in my 20s with good luck. I gained about 10 lbs. I was slightly more hungry. Now in my 30s, just restarted this same pill and it is NOT working for me as well, i.e. I feel a little more hungry, and am slightly depressed on it, having some dryness, and I feel like I may be gaining a few pounds. I have been the same weight for about 7 years now off chemical bc so I feel like it can blame it if I start to gaining fast. I think the depression and especially the hunger issue has to do with the progestin for me, but when I take less progestin my period is worse, so its a delicate balance. I have also tried OTC Lo, felt less hungry but I had more btb/cramps and my period was long. I did not give that one enough of a chance, as I think the btb may have straightened out. Sorry I don't have any answers, though, other than keep working out like you have been.
