Hi,

I've just this months switched to a different BCP (from Ortho Tri Cyclen to Alesse) and I started bleeding about 2 weeks into my cycle. I know its normal to bleed when you switch BCP but it's been going on for 2 weeks. At first, it was just lite.. but now it's pretty heavy... So... is this normal or should I see my doc about it... Also, is it possible to get pregnant when you're bleeding like this. I have sex with my boyfriend all the time and we don't use a backup method.

Please help.

Thanks a lot.

Hi allydiagon, welcome!

It usually takes about 3 cycles for any side effects associated with starting or switching hormonal methods to disappear. Since you are bleeding so heavily you might want to let your doc know, just to keep him or her in the loop. Ovulation suppression and Endometrium control are two different functions of your pills so if you have been taking your pills correctly you should still be protected. I hope you find a pill that will work well for you. Let us know what your doc says, ok?

Good luck

The last new pill I switched to I had periods every 2 weeks for about 3 months...it takes different amounts of time for everyone's body to adjust to the new hormones and such in the new pill....
