Moody on OTC, switched 2 Ortho Cyclen

I've been on OTC for a year, and due to mood swings I decided to change the pill I was taking at the last visit I had at my pp center. So the doctor told me that probably the mood swings were because of the otc and its triphasic. So she switched me to Ortho Cyclen. She said it's more like the third pill in otc, but this is constant since its monophasic. So I began taking this new pill, and within the first 2 1/2 weeks on the pill I still feel moody all the time, and it seems like maybe I've been even MORE moody, if that's possible. She also said something about that because I tend to have my period normally for like 5 or 6 days that she wanted to switch me to something with more hormones, as opposed to something like otc lo. I'm confused because I thought that the high hormone levels were what was making me moody in the first place, because I was usually moody in the last week of the pills, like the dark blue colored pills. Do you think it takes some time for my body to adjust to the new pill and the constant steady hormone level, or should I go back and ask to be switched to something else?

You are right, it usually takes at least 3 cycles for any hormone related side effects to disappear after beginning or switching hormonal contraceptives. If you can, I would give your new pill at least 3 cycles to see if the side effects go away. Three or four weeks are not enough time to see how your new pill will work for you.
Good luck,
Jill
