why now?

I'm 19 - was on ortho tricyclen since i was 15 up until last month. For three months in a row i was having brownish/reddish discharge for 5 days beore my period to the point that I was having to use a regular tampon to prevent staining on my clothes. I went to my gyno and she switched me to mircette - i had my last period a week and a half ago and now i'm having the dsicharge again! Why is this happening now!!!!??? I had regular periods to the point that I could predict the hour my period would start for 4 years! Has anyone else had this problem with being on birth control?

Our bodies change over time and we can ‘out grow’ a pill. Perhaps that is what happened with OTC. I think what you are experiencing is your body adjusting to your new pill. When beginning or switching hormonal contraceptives it usually takes 3 or so cycles for your body to become adjusted to the new hormones and any side effects that you are experiencing, such as irregular bleeding, breast tenderness etc, to go away. I think you will be fine.
Good luck,
Jill
