Hi,

I am probably overreacting but I thought I'd try to ask this question. I have been on Alesse for over a year. I forgot to start the pack last week and wanted to have a Sunday start. So, I started the new pack this past Sunday and had sex a day later. I am wondering if starting a new pack a week later would have any affect. Is there an increased chance of getting pregnant?

Hi Christine, Welcome!

I’m sorry to tell you that if you went more than 7 24-hour days between active pills you are not over reacting! How long ago did you have IC? This past Monday, and today is almost Thursday. You still have a chance that EC would be effective for you. It’s most effective within 72 hours and somewhat effective for up to 5 days. An IUD inserted as EC can be inserted up to 7 days after the event in question and still be 99% effective. If I were you I would talk to your doc ASAP about EC. Also see the EC site at. http://ec.princeton.edu/ Let us know how you’re doing, ok?

Good luck, and hugs,

Hi,

I took the Plan B on Thursday morning. I am wondering what are the chances of getting pregnant. I am still taking the Alesse.

Thanks for your help,

Christine

Hi Christine,

No one can say exactly what your chances are, but if you took EC within 72 hours of the IC of concern the chances are pretty good that you will be ok. The only thing to do now is to wait. Try not to worry. I know that is a lot easier for me to say than for you to do, but worrying isn’t going to help. Let us now how you’re doing, ok?

(((Hugs)))
