Nuvaring and yeast infection creams

Do yeast infection creams affect the nuvaring? Can I leave it in while treating an infection? Do I need to use backup birth control?

Also does yogurt really help prevent yeast infections? How often do I need to eat it? Every day?

Thanks.

Hi there,

It says in the package insert that "the blood levels of the hormones released by Nuvaring were increased when using an oil-based vaginal medication (miconazole nitrate) for a yeast infection while Nuvaring was in place"

So yes you can leave it in and no (according to the insert) you do not need backup.

Have you been to a doctor to diagnose your infection? Cl-Judie always says that the ring may cause you to be more yeasty and to not treat it unless you are having unpleasant symptoms.

I have also heard to eat yogurt. The active cultures in yogurt naturally fight yeast. I'm not sure how much though.

Maybe someone else will have more to add about the yogurt part. Good luck!

I did a quick search on yogurt and yeast infections and here is a link I found about it at Go Ask Alice!

Hope that helps.
