Stopping Yasmin

Hello lovely ladies...

I recently stopped taking Yasmin (have been on it for 5 months), and two days later I got my period. Is this a normal reaction and will it be a "normal" period? If anyone has thoughts on this, it would be greatly appreciated.

Also - Yasmin has been the third BC I have been on, and hormonal contraceptives do not work for me...I experience weight gain, depression, and all that jazz. I have not had children and I am looking toward getting the copper IUD. Will that go over with my OBGYN? Does anyone have any suggestions on other non-hormonal long term contraceptives? Again, thank you in advance for your advice!

...Much thanks

I was just put on Yasmin a month ago. What time of the month did you stop taking it? Was it right before you were to start your period? As far as I know, yasmin is like all the other pills, you still get a cycle once a month. As far as IUD goes....................I've never really heard many good things about it, but your obgyn would be the best person to ask.

Hi

I have the copper IUD and love it. I am 25 with no children, my GYN was the one who told me about IUDs when I went to ask about other options as I didn't like pills anymore. There is a higher risk of expelling the IUD if you haven't had children. It also may be a bit more painful to put it since your cervix has never been opened. The procedure was short and it felt like really bad cramps for a minute.

I have had my IUD since May, my first period was longer and I had more cramps, nothing that some Motrin didn't fix. My sex drive is back and I am no longer dry, so life is much better. My doctor told my periods could take several months to adjust and they would probably get better.

Talk to your doctor, most are happy to insert an IUD even if you haven't had children.

You can do a search for IUD on this message board and get a lot of information and peoples views.

I hope you find something that is right for you, Good Luck!
