I'm having a hard time remembering to take my pill on time.

Actually one more question about my options, now that I've relaxed about the serious side effect fears :)

Nuvaring sounds interesting, but I am squeamish about inserting things.

Hi ariane05, welcome!

This board considers +/-2 hours of your regular pill time as being on time so an hour or two late is still ‘on time.’ However, being chronically late can lead to being later and later and that is not a good thing, as Martha would say. To help you remember you could set the alarm on a clock, or an inexpensive watch and carry it with you. Or, set a reminder message on your cell phone, PDA or computer. Mood swings and headaches can be side effects of starting hormonal contraceptives. Any side effects should go away in about three cycles. If they don’t then you have given that pill a good try and should talk with your doc. about a pill switch. Let us know how you’re doing, ok?

Good luck,

Hi ariane05,

A lot of members posting here love NuvaRing. You are right, you have to be comfortable touching yourself but that is something that you can get used to over time if you are willing to make the effort. Insertion of the ring is very easy and it stays in place (for almost all users) by itself. I have used cervical caps and diaphragms for years and years. It’s easy and second nature now so I forget that some of are uncomfortable touching ourselves down there. If you want to try NuvaRing I’m sure you will do just fine!

Good luck and hugs,

Hi there Ariane,

I just got done using Nuvaring ring for my first month. I love it! As with any type of birth control, it has taken a bit of time to get used to it. Mainly my fears were that the ring would fall out or the ring wasn't far enough in there, did I have a yeast infection (nope, just a bit more discharge which is totally normal for some) and I guess that is all really. It was so great not having to worry about taking a pill every day! I just set my mobile phone to ring on the day I needed to remove it..and it was done! I also have my phone set to remind me to put a new one back in..

I hope you look into something that is easier for you to 'remember' and that you are fomfortable with.

Hi!

I have been on Nuvaring for about 6 months now and I love not taking a pill everyday. I don't even notice the hormones and my periods are even lighter and shorter than what they were on the pill. As far as inserting it, I squeeze the sides together to make it "long" instead of a circle and pretty much pop it in. When it's time to take it out, I can get it with one finger. It really isn't that gross. However, I am a nurse so my perception of gross and not gross could be a little different than someone else's. Is there one thing that you do consistently everyday that you could coorelate with your pill time? Like getting of off work or your favorite tv show...

Good luck in what you decide!

Jen
