Period start date on Pill

I've been taking the pill for almost a year. I'm taking Trinessa, the generic form of OrthoTriCyclen. I finish my pill packs on a Saturday (take my last pill on Saturday) and am supposed to start my period Sunday. I don't usually start bleeding until Wednesday. Is this normal? It drives me a little crazy because it makes me worry for Sunday-Wednesday that I could be pregnant. Thanks for your help.

Hi Sara, welcome!

The typical interval range between the last active pill and the start of your period is between 2 and 5 days. Once you have been on hormones for a few cycles you will see a pattern to when AF will appear. That is what will be normal for you and normal appears to be the Wednesday of your placebo week. Thanks for stopping by.

Good luck,

Most women don't start bleeding the first day of inactive pills, because it takes a few days for the body to readjust to the hormone withdrawal and start bleeding. When i first started the pill my period came the third day of inactive pills, but over time it shifted to the fourth day. Now I'm on a different pill and I haven't had a bleed yet, so I don't know when it'll come!

anyway, some women don't start bleeding until the last day of inactive pills. as long as your schedule stays reasonably regular (we all have little hiccups now and again) I wouldn't worry at all. In general I think a missed period on the pill means going the solid four weeks (3 active and 1 inactive) without bleeding. I've read that even a single red stain or brown smear on a tampon counts as a period when a woman is on the pill.
