I put the patch on yesterday (to hopefully help with Endo) at 5pm and this morning at 8 I woke up feeling ill and passed out on the way to the bathroom (I then tore the patch off once I came to)..Then it made me get SICK a few times this morning (before noon) ..been eating saltines and wondering when I can eat decent food again and how long the hormones will stay in my system (IE, make me ILL!) since it was only on me for about 15-16 hours. I haven't been "stomach" sick in about 4 years and 9 years before that so it was definitely the patch!

The hormones should be out of your body in 24-36 hours, I'd imagine the nausea should be better as time goes by. If it isn't, then there might be something else afoot! Nausea isn't all that uncommon when women start hormonal contraceptives, though usually doctors and pharmacists tell us that it shouldn't happen with the patch because the hormones don't go in the stomach. We have had a number of women quit the patch because of extreme nausea, though, so you're not the only one!

It's possible too, though no one knows how likely, that you'll start bleeding sometime in the next couple of days. Some women don't, but some women, even if they only take a couple of birth control pills, will have a withdrawal bleed within a few days of stopping. Be prepared just in case! It's not a real period, it would just be because you gave your body hormones and took them away (16 hours may not be enough to make a difference, but you wouldn't want to go out in white capri pants not knowing that, right?).

Good luck, I hope you're feeling better!

That is an extreme reaction. If you haven't already, I would call your doctor immediately.

the first time i started using the patch i definitely experienced some negative side effects. after the first few weeks though, my body adjusted to it. remember tha tyou're putting hormones into your system and nausea, dizziness and feeling faint are the most common side effects. the medication stays in your system about 48 hrs after you remove the patch as well, so taking it off wont make you feel immediately better.

i think a good thing to do is try to wait it out, i know you feel like crap now, but i felt like that in the beginning and i promise you i adjusted to it and now im perfectly fine. if the side effects are too mucha nd you're not feeling better, you might want to switch to a different form of hormonal birth control, 1 witha lower estrogen dosage.

but side effects are a normal part of any hormonal medication so you might have to deal with some there too.

good luck :)
