I started taking Yasmin (the pill) 2 months ago and still haven't recieved my period. If I take a pregnancy test will I get a false Positive? Also, what are the harm to the baby if I am pregnant?

Hi sarapatterson, welcome!

HCG, or human chorionic gonadotropin, is a hormone produced by the placenta during pregnancy that can be detected in the mother's blood or urine even before the woman's missed period. This hormone is what is looked for with a “pregnancy test”. Being on hormonal contraceptives will not interfere with a pregnancy test. There is no meaningful evidence that taking hormonal contraceptives will harm a fetus but a woman should stop taking them as soon as she finds out she is pregnant. Are you ok? Let us know how you’re doing, ok?

Hugs

Thanks, I'm doing great. I guess I'm just a little paranoid cause my fiancee and I have been through the whole pregnancy scare bit before and I just am not wanting to encounter it again. I'm not too worried about being late on my period, its just if I'm a few more days late I want to take a test to make sure everything is alright. Otherwise I'm not having any other signs of prenancy so I'm really not too worried. Also, if by chance I was pregnant I just wanted to make sure the baby wouldn't be at harm. My OBGYN didn't really tell me too much about birth controll, she just said here take this to regulate your periods so I'm having to research everything on my own. Thanks so much though for your awnser!
