Tanning: Ok on the Pill?

Hi Guys,

For some strange reason, I have it in my head that tanning is bad when you're on the Pill. It says nothing about it on my OTC-Lo instruction packet, but I'm still worried cause I love the beach, and I love swimming and since I'm in SoCal, I want to enjoy all the summer activities without worry. Does anyone know anything about this? Is it safe?

Thanks in Advance,

Natalie

I've been on BC for nearly 9 years now and have never had any problems -- including tanning outside and in a tanning bed. Hope this helps!!

Hi natyasa, welcome back!

Hormonal contraceptives can increase the sensitivity to sunlight in some women so I would be very careful to use plenty of sunblock until you find out how or if they will affect your tanning.

Good luck

Hi! I was fine for YEARS tanning and so on but when i got switched to OTC-Lo i CANT even go outside in the sun for a tiny bit without having huge parts of my skin to peel even where i am tan..It really sucks and it made me very mad..I dunno if this helps but be careful in case this happends to u..really put a damper on my life but im switching back and i found avacado oil helps heal this and keep me from peeling.

Have a good one!

Even if tanniing doesn't affect your BC, it can lead to skin cancer. Use sunscreen.
