Question... trying to make sense of it..

So if you miss a pill for one day, you should use a back-up method for 7 days, right?
Then what about when you start taking the placebos? Isn't that, in a way, *missing* the pill for 7 days? Is a back-up method necessary then?
Also, small, minor question, I'm not really worried about it, but I didn't use a back-up method when I started on the placebos (okay, I'll be honest, I don't even bother taking the placebos, I just remember when I'm supposed to start back up on the active pills)... and it's been nearly the whole week and I haven't started my period (and I don't think it's going to)... not even any spotting. Is this unusual?
I honestly wouldn't believe I'm pregnant, though I haven't totally ruled it out either.
Just wondering.

If you take all 21 active pills correctly the hormones level in your blood is high enough to protect you for 7 24-hour days after the last of the active pills. No back-up is needed if you have been taking your pills correctly. The placebos are just place holders to keep you in the habit and help you remember when to start your pills again. If you haven’t been sick and thrown up or had diarrhea within 2 hours of taking your pill (that's a missed pill) or been taking medicines or supplements that reduce the effectiveness of your pills then you should be quite safe. And, missing a period while on OCs is not unknown.
Good luck,
Jill
