Can any doctor give Rx for "the Pill"?

I've never been on the Pill before but just started a relationship with a guy a few weeks ago and am thinking about going on the Pill. I have an appointment with a doctor at a different clinic next week for a cervical procedure (LEEP) and I was wondering if someone other than my regular doctor would be able to give me a prescription for the Pill? Is it as simple as asking for a prescription or do they need to do some sort of checkup with you? Would I be able to just call my regular doctor and ask her to write one for me or do I need to go in for an exam? I can go to my regular doctor, but who knows how long it would take to get in to see her, and since I'll be seeing this other one, I figured it would be convenient.

Typically, you can go to either your regular doctor or a gynecologist for a prescription for the pill. Since you're going for a LEEP, I'd assume you've got an up-to-date Pap and pelvic exam? One thing to consider, though, is that you'll need to be able to follow up with a doctor in case you have problems down the road. If you're only seeing this doctor a couple of times for LEEP-related appointments and then never again, I'd recommend having your latest Pap results sent to your regular doctor or gyn and making a consultation appointment (to talk about the pill, possible side effects, how to take it, and pick up some free samples) with either one of them. Another thing to think about is how much experience your doctor has with dispensing the pill. If all goes well after you start the pill, then you won't have to worry about it, but if you have some side effects that you'd like to get rid of, a doctor who is familiar with the different types of pills and how they're different from each other can save you a lot of hassle.

I hope that helps! Good luck to you...
