Im worried about my patch any help...

iv been on ortho evra for three weeks now i will be putting on my third patch tonight. But the dumb thing doesent seem to stick well. i have to put it on my butt so that it doesent show when i swim etc. i dont want to be sporting a patch on my shoulder or a squair tan line. but the edges seem to lift expecially the corner. iv tried different soap thinking that would help but it dident i dont put lotion near it either. it also gets a wrinkle acrost it and the patch actually lifts a little where the wrinkly is. I dont think this is good. any advise how to get it to stick better. my husband is in the service and its hard for him to get time off to take me back to the dr. but im worried about it. i also have another question about the ring if i do decide to go back to the dr. i have a general practice dr he doesent even do paps he will just give you a priscription. I ask about the ring last time i was in and they told me i would have to go to a gyn and they would have ot give me a refural that would mean another appointment for hubby to try to get me to. they said hte gyn would have to put it in for me is that true have others that have th ring have to have the first one put in for them. help me out im confusted.... thanks alot

I too have had issues with the patch "peeling" at the enge, or "wrinkling" in the middle. I wear mine either on my shoulder, near the base of my neck, or on my backside cheek. yup...the cheek. And it doesn't wrinkle there. It usually starts to peel at the corner around the 5th or 6th day...I've asked my OBGYN about this, and she said not to worry. If it lifts off entirely, then just get a replacement patch. (Make sure to ask your soctor for a prescription for "refill" patches...in case one comes off, etc.
I'm not sure where your abthing suit lies, but the backside cheek has worked well for me. I know you said that you wanted to avoid your shoulder...but I think that it is almost an advertisement for responsibility and safe sex. Almost like "Hey world...look at this patch on my back! I'm responsible, and protecting myself!" (I know, silly, but I had to answer questions about it, and it was more of an educational experience for people).
Hope this helps...
btw...I tried the ring...It hurt SO BAD!! My OBGYM said it isn't for everyone. I hope that you find something that works for you!

My favorite patch place is in the small of my back, right above my *ahem* plumber's crack. It ALWAYS peels off from my cheeks. FWIW, mine wrinkled and peeled so badly a few weeks ago I was sure I'd end up preggers, but no.
I do think it's important to note that:
**The patch is NOT safe sex!**
You're still at risk for any and every STD on the block--so if you have any doubts about your partner at all, condoms are the only way to go without worrying about the icky stickies. It doesn't sound like you do; I just felt morally obligated to mention it.
Also, the medicine in the patch is exactly the same as that in Ortho Cyclen pills, so if you wanted to switch, you should be able to just call the doc and ask to change. There's no reason for you to be seen by either doctor for that. Good luck! Aside from the peeling, red skin, tan lines, dirty outline, and itching, the patch is great, ain't it? :-p
