iv been on ortho evra for three weeks now i will be putting on my third patch tonight. But the dumb thing doesent seem to stick well. i have to put it on my butt so that it doesent show when i swim etc. i dont want to be sporting a patch on my shoulder or a squair tan line. but the edges seem to lift expecially the corner. iv tried different soap thinking that would help but it dident i dont put lotion near it either. it also gets a wrinkle acrost it and the patch actually lifts a little where the wrinkly is. I dont think this is good. any advise how to get it to stick better. my husband is in the service and its hard for him to get time off to take me back to the dr. but im worried about it. i also have another question about the ring if i do decide to go back to the dr. i have a general practice dr he doesent even do paps he will just give you a priscription. I ask about the ring last time i was in and they told me i would have to go to a gyn and they would have ot give me a refural that would mean another appointment for hubby to try to get me to. they said hte gyn would have to put it in for me is that true have others that have th ring have to have the first one put in for them. help me out im confusted.... thanks alot

Hi Julie,

You could call the Ortho Evra Customer Care Center which can be reached at 1-877-323-2200 and ask them about the wrinkles. CL-marrymeflyfree who is a patch user says her patch stays on better if she wears it in a diamond shape with the corners up, down left and right. Go figure! Give it a try and see if that works for you.

Good luck,

Hi, Julie (and all)!

Just wanted to clarify--Ortho Evra (the patch) is the same medication as Ortho Cyclen, not Ortho Tri-Cyclen. It seems kind of silly that the names are so similar, since the actual drugs (and side effects) are very different between Tri-Cyclen and plain old Cyclen. Don't know why Ortho did things that way!

Actually Ortho Tri Cyclen, Ortho Cyclen, and Ortho Tri Cyclen Lo all have the same type of progestin. The amount of progestin is different between Ortho Tri Cyclen and Ortho Cyclen and the amount of estrogen is different between OTC and OTC Lo.

The progestin in the patch is a derivative of the progestin in Ortho Cyclen and the OTC's, so they're all related.

And just an important note for patch users--make sure you're only putting your patches in the places on your body that are indicated in the patient information! They've only tested them in these locations and can't guarantee that you'll absorb enough of the hormones through your skin anywhere else. Those locations would be your buttocks, your upper torso (chest excluding breasts or back), abdomen, or upper outer arm. Nowhere else!
