Question about restarting the pill

i was on the pill for a few years and i stopped taking it about six months ago. I want to restart taking it again but by the time i got a doctors appt. for a new precription it was a few days late to start. My doctor said that i would have to wait until i got my period again before i could restart. However, i was originally on the pill to control my periods which on their own without the pill come every two-three months. I tried to wait it out....it has now been over a month, but i am sexually active right now (we are using condoms of course) and i would feel a lot better knowing taht i was on the pill. Would it be a really bad thing to start taking the pill on a sunday (without waiting for my period) as long as i used a backup birth control method for awhile till my body regulated itself...and if this is an ok thing to do how long should i use a backup method.
thanks

Well, your doc wanting you to have your period is to be sure you aren’t pg before you begin taking your pills. You would probably be ok, but since you have been having IC, even using condoms, no one can know for certain. You might want to ask your doctor or his or her nurse if, given your circumstances, they think it would be all right for you to start. Let us know what they say, ok?
Good luck,
Jill
