I have just changed my birth control pills once again - this time I am taking Microgestin. I have personally never heard of it - but I am now on my period 2 weeks early! :( :( :( :( :( :( :(

Also, having "morning sickness" (probably wrong word, but I get nauseated in the morning) and am super emotional right now - not to mention my appetite is OUT OF CONTROL!

So...in talking to my boyfriend, I told him I didn't want to be on the pills anymore. I have been on birth control for a good 9 years now and it almost feels like my body hates the pill now, does that make any sense?!?!?!?

I have heard that once you get off the pill it's SUPER easy to get pregnant. Is that true or just a myth? I know my mom and my good friend both stopped the pill and by the next month, they were pregnant.

Also, don't you suffer some sort of mood swings when you get off the pill and you can have your period for a while? I am just weighing all my options right now... :(

Also, how does the calendar method work? Is that REALLY safe?

You would think I was 16 years old and didn't know a thing wouldn't you? LOL! Too bad I am almost 30!

Any help would be great!

I was on the pill for 7 years straight, then I went off because I wanted to have a baby. No baby! We tried for years... I don't know if going off the pill makes it easier to get pregnant, but it didn't for me. I went back on the pill for a couple of years (between husbands) then back off again because I wanted to get pg. Still no luck. I stayed off the pills after that, and about 3 years later finally became pg. After the birth of our son, I went back on for 6 months... and realized that the pills made me sick. So I went off the pill for the last time and switched to condoms. Now I have the Paraguard IUD inserted. I love it. I don't have to think about b/c at all. It didn't hurt to have inserted... not more then a mild menstral cramp. My periods have been a bit heavier but that was not big deal either. Sooooo.... I don't know if that answered any of your questions or not... but there are other options if you don't want to be on the pill forever.

Can you tell me more about the IUD? I have heard bad things about them - but it was an option I have thought about! I wouldn't care if periods were heavier or anything - that's no biggie.

I am scared that getting off the pill will either get me pregnant easier or not at all - and eventually I want kids - especially since I am gettin' to that age ya know?

I am just scared - someone told me she got off the pill and went through a severe depression and I don't want that either!

I think I am scared of the "unknown" I guess?

But am interested on anymore info you MAY have about the IUD...how long does it last?

Hi deneeecie, welcome to the Birth Control Board!

Oral contraceptives won't make you any more or less fertile when you stop them. Most women begin taking OCs when they first become sexually active so they don't have much experience with their natural cycles to know how fertile they were prior to the pill. In addition, timing of IC has a great deal to do with how readily we get pg when ttc. I think we have had a member post that she had mood swings when she stopped OCs but I don't think that's the norm. Actually, when I stopped OTC 2 years ago I felt wonderful! More alive and vibrant and my libido came roaring back within a week! If you are interested in an IUD read the very informative post by missmuffi in the FAQ Folder about them. Then, if you have more questions, please ask. Thanks for stopping by.

Good luck,

Jill,

I too felt 100% better after stopping the pills. Moods improved, energy level went up, libido shot thru the roof. I just felt overall much better on the pill.

Deneeecie,

I am on the Paraguard IUD which is made with copper. It does not contain any hormones at all, unlike the Mirnia IUD which does. The Paraguard IUD can be inserted and left in place for up to ten years. I've had mine for 3 months and I really like it. Hope this helps.
