Very Important BC article.

I was on another message board on Ivillage and someone posted this article about BC pills. It is very interesting and a little scary at the same time. A few of the things mentioned in this article are things I've never even thought of. Like if you weigh more then 155 pounds, a low dose pill will not be as effective for you. I have attached the sight, hopefull you can open it.

We have had this discussion several times before, the last being in May of this year. Anyone concerned about this issue should read the last discussion, see:
http://messageboards.ivillage.com/n/mb/message.asp?webtag=iv-bhcontracept&msg=12059.1 Judie has link to a good article specifically about a user’s weight and the effectiveness of hormonal contraceptives. Ortho Evra (the patch) is the only hormonal method that I’m aware of that has a warning about the effectiveness of the method for women 198 lbs and over.
Also in the Cosmo article was a reference to Nonoxynol-9, the active ingredient in commercial spermicide, as possibly increasing the risk of contracting HIV. Clinical studies of sex workers in Asia (made to determine if N9 protected against HIV) found that very frequent and continued use of N9 spermicide caused small vaginal tears which allowed easier entry of pathogens to the bloodstream. There is no evidence so far that N9 is harmful in typical use in the general population.
