I started Yasmin 10 days ago as a Day 1 start (first day of period) and have been bleeding everyday since. I have dizziness, nausea, horrible cramps, extreme fatigue and mood swings that make me want to roll up into a fetal position and cry. I am also bloated, have breast tenderness and my face is breaking out. I called Planned Parenthood and the nurse just said hang in there for a few months. Personally, I think that makes no sense...who would endure these kinds of side effects for 3 months? Even my boyfriend wants me to go off of them because he feels so bad watching me feel so awful.
I was on Ortho-Cept for 5 years (a higher dose pill) with not one side effect ever...but I was 12 years younger, too (I am now 32).
However, I have a 23 year old friend who started Yasmin about the same time I did and all she is having is moderate fatigue. She works in a gyno office and says their patients are usually switched to Yasmin when they have side effects on other pill brands. The point is, although I am having LOTS of problems with this pill....I know people who are having the time of their life on it too and couldn't be happier. My advice would be, actually, to try it...and if you have side effects that you can't bear...stop taking them and switch to another pill or another method of birth control...because everyone is different and you may not know which one works for you until you try them.
Meanwhile, if anyone knows of anyone who has had these kinds of side effects on Yasmin I could use some advice. Should I try different pills myself or hang in there for a couple more weeks? Thanks!
I also had horrible side effects on Yasmin and no side effects on apri, which is the same as ortho-cept i think? generic for desogen? I guess we are the few it DOESN'T work for :)
Thanks for message. I know that the pill would work differently for each lady. I have been using Cerazette which is lighter than Yasmin because i have a 15 months old baby which i am still breastfeeding. In few months i would wean her completely from my breasts so i don't mind if the milk got less. I pills i used to take were good at the begining and when my daughter was 10 months old i started bleeding, i got bloated and was in a bad mood most of the time specially in the evenings! So my husband asked me to stop the pills and i did and i am not using anything so far. I can't trust my husband for not getting pregnant (we r using the natural method of pulling out) and i am not ready for it too. I am trying to loose few kilos too. So, i think i will give it a try and hope it works with me... Thanks a lot :)
Pros:
-It cleared up my acne, not at first, but now i never get my "monthly monster"
-It took the water out of me, so i felt less bloated near my period
-I'm ver consistant on the day i start
Con:
It made my period a little heavier since i was going from a High progesterone pill (loestrin) to a smaller dose.
Other than that i love it! It works for me, but every body's tolerance level is different to hormones. Hopefully it will work out for you!
Goodluck
