The calendar method is not effective but fertility awareness (taking your temperature, checking cervical fluid, etc) is very effective. I just read Taking Charge of Your Fertility and I would highly recommend it! It explains everything you need to know.

Hi athena00181, welcome!

I agree with iposh. Counting days on a calendar is ineffective if you are trying to avoid becoming pregnant. Taking Charge of Your Fertility, by Toni Weschler is a wonderful book about Fertility Awareness which charts your fertility signs: basal body temperature, cervical position and cervical fluid. If you follow all the rules all the time the Fertility Awareness method can be very effective. However it takes knowledge and discipline to use correctly.

Good luck,

I just bought and am reading Taking Charge of Your Fertility and it is so interesting to learn about how your body works. I'm not sure how familiar we are with it on this board, but here is an IVillage Natural Family Planning board that might help:

I'm not trying to direct you away, but rather to direct you toward additional help. you are always welcome here too.

Good luck,

Holly
