Ortho Tri Cyclen Lo cause heavy periods?

I just completed my first month of Ortho Tri Cyclen Lo, and my period this month is probably the heaviest its ever been in my life ... and I am not exaggerating. I'm basically bleeding through super tampons and my clothing ... constantly. It hurts so bad, I swear I can feel each organ working inside. I am extremely sore and exhausted. I've had heavy periods here and there before, but never to this extent ... with the pain and everything. I was just wondering if my body readjusting to the new level of hormones has anything to do with it? I'm not sure if I should call my doctor on this right away or just see how it goes next month ... Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks,

J

I was put on otc lo because my periods were coming too close together and lasting a long time.

The progestin in OTC Lo isn't a real strong progestin, and that has a big effect on what your periods are like. The initial switch to a hormonal contraceptive can be a challenge for some women, but it might not hurt to clue your doctor in to what's happening. It's likely that s/he will tell you to see what next month is like (it may improve) and if it were bad again next month it may be easier to get a prescription for a different pill with a stronger progestin or more progestin without having to do a third month. Then again, next month might be very different!

I used to have 7-day, super plus tampon + super maxi periods before the pill, and while OTC helped those a lot, I have had lighter periods with other pills. I hope it gets better for you!
