bleeding between depo-provera shots

Hi ladies! I'm hoping someone can help me figure out what's going on with me. I'm 20 years old, and I've been taking the Depo-Provera shot since I was 16. I don't get my period, but I do get some light spotting about 2 weeks before my next needle is due. Well for the past 2 cycles, I've started spotting half way through (about a month and a half), and it will completely stop as soon as I get the shot. The first time it happened I was under a lot of stress, so I figured it was due to that. But now I'm more relaxed than I probably ever have been since I started taking Depo, and it's still happening! Anybody know what's up with that? Thanks!

Our bodies change as we age. I think what may be happening is your body chemistry has begun to react a bit differently with your shot. As the level of progestin decreases over time it will no longer stabilize the lining of your uterus. That shouldn't decrease your shot's effectiveness as a contraceptive, as long as you are getting your shots on time, but you might want to discuss your bleeding with your doctor.
Good luck,
Jill
