Hello! I started back up on taking birth control pills about 2 weeks ago after being off of them for 7 months. I did the Sunday start but I actually got my period the saturday before, so when I started it on Sunday, it was already into the second day of my period. I remember my gyn. telling me once to start the pill the sunday after you get your period, so I figured it worked out good because I had just gotten my period. Anyway, me and my bf had sex last night and he came in me. Am I protected since I've been on it for about 2 weeks? Thanks!!

BEST WISHES AND LET ME KNOW!!

If you have been taking your pills correctly you should be fine. If you start your pills on the first day of your period you should be protected immediately. If you start later than the first day you are protected after 7 days of correct pill use. That information is in the Patient Information leaflet that comes with each pack of pills. This board usually recommends that you use back-up for the entire first cycle in order to give yourself time to get into the habit of taking your pills correctly (see the post in the FAQs about the things to do and watch for) before you rely totally on your pills for protection. If you've been good about taking your pills you should be ok.
Good luck,
Jill
